Climate & Temperature

The months between March and October are particularly recommended for an unforgettable sailing holiday in Croatia, for beginners the period from July to August. During this period you can expect countless hours of sunshine and little rainfall. Even if it can sometimes get very hot with temperatures of up to 40 °C, average temperatures of 25 to 30 °C usually prevail during the day.
The wind conditions in particular are comparatively stable in summer. The Mistral – also known as the fair-weather wind – blows from the north-west of the Adriatic Sea and is perfect for sailing. In the evenings, the wind usually calms down so that you can anchor overnight without any problems.

There are five sailing areas in Croatia: Istria, Kvarner Bay, North Dalmatia, Central Dalmatia and South Dalmatia

Banjole Bay With its 5,835 kilometers of mainland coast and 1,246 islands, Croatia is one of the most popular sailing areas in the Mediterranean.

First of all, we can state that Croatia has a unique starting position in the Mediterranean. On the one hand, the islands off the mainland are a kind of natural breakwater, which ensures that you can always sail calmly somewhere in the shelter and moor or anchor safely in almost all weather conditions. It doesn't matter whether it's a perfectly developed marina, a small island harbour, a mooring field, a restaurant bay with a wooden jetty or a secluded anchorage - there's always something to be found within a few nautical miles.
In recent years, the infrastructure for water sports has grown enormously. Anyone who has ever been to the Croatian Adriatic coast will surely want to come back. Let's divide Croatia into five well-known geographic regions from north to south:

  • Peninsula Istria
  • Kvarner Bay
  • North Dalmatia with the Kornati National Park
  • Central Dalmatia
  • South Dalmatia
This also makes sense from a sailing and planning point of view, because each of these five regions can actually be viewed as a separate cruise destination. With distances that are just right for a one- to two-week trip, depending on your mood.
